Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for the Graduate programme at Bidwells?

Depending on the pathway, our Graduate roles are typically advertised on our vacancies page between September and December. During the year, there are sometimes adhoc Graduate vacancies that arise. These will also be posted on our careers site but there is no guarantee any will occur outside of the typical advertising window.

What is RICS?

RICS - Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, is a professional body that accredits professionals within the land, property, construction, and infrastructure sectors worldwide. Established in 1868 in the United Kingdom, RICS sets standards and regulations to ensure the quality and professionalism of its members.

What is RTPI?

RTPI - Royal Town Planning Institute, is a professional organisation in the United Kingdom that represents and supports professionals in the field of town planning. Founded in 1914, the RTPI plays a key role in promoting best practices, setting standards, and providing education and resources for planners in the UK and internationally.

What degree do I need to be eligible for your Graduate vacancies?

At Bidwells, we accept applicants with Cognate and Non-Cognate degrees. For example, if you’re an individual looking to embark on a career in Planning, an example of a cognate degree would be an RTPI-accredited degree such as Planning however if you had a degree in Geography or English literature, we would also consider your application so long as you show a passion and understanding for Planning!

To be considered for our Graduate position, all individuals must hold a BSC 2:1 or above.

What is a cognate or non-cognate?

A cognate refers to somebody who is studying or obtained a RICS or RTPI accredited degree such as Real Estate, Town Planning or Rural Surveying. A non-cognate is someone who is not studying towards or hasn’t obtained a RICS or RTPI accredited degree such as Geography, English, Maths.

Can I apply to multiple pathways in the same year?

We advise that individuals only apply to one specific pathway. Being clear and decisive about your chosen pathway creates a strong impression. Our Talent team will review all applications and applying to multiple pathways may suggest a lack of focus or insufficient research. Our Talent team may suggest that you’re better for a different pathway after speaking you!

However, if you genuinely cannot choose between two pathways, please ensure that each application is carefully tailored to the specific pathway you’re applying to, as it shows a desire to work in a particular field.

What is the application process?

Stage 1: Online application. At this stage you will be required to submit an online application along with your CV and cover letter. We will ask you specific questions related to the role and your knowledge.

Stage 2. If your application is successful, you will be selected to sit an online aptitude test, taking no longer than 30 minutes. 

Stage 3: If successful, you will have a recorded teams interview with someone from our Early Careers team. All interviewees will be asked the same questions and be given an allotted time slot to answer. The questions will be related to the chosen pathway you’ve applied to. The interviews will be shared with the hiring managers from each department.

Stage 4. If successful, you will be asked to attend an Assessment Centre. Typically these take place in December or January. These will involve industry-related activities, team building exercises, 1:1 interviews, meeting the team and lunch.

Stage 4: Offer. Should you be successful in gaining a place on our 2025 Graduate Programme, you will be phoned by our Talent team with details of the offer. You will have a specific date in which you need to let us know your acceptance of our offer – this will be given to you at offer stage. The offer will be followed up by an email copy of your contract. 

What locations do you offer Graduate positions in?

We offer Graduate positions in the following locations however please note, some graduate roles are limited to specific locations:

Do you accept late applications?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept late applications due to constraints of the charter. All applications must be completed via our website, we cannot accept CV’s and cover letters that are emailed through to our Talent team. All application dates, opening and closing, are on our website.

How will Bidwells support me through my APC?

The second part of our Graduate Development programme is focused on getting you through your APC. We offer parallel programmes for RICS and RTPI including seminars, practice interviews, development planning and individual coaching which is designed and led by experienced in-house APC assessors. You’ll have line management support, mentorship and team support to ensure you are confident and ready. We have an exceptional pass rate and that is down to the dedicated resources we have in-house as well as our experienced APC counsellors.

What will a typical day look like when taking on a graduate role at Bidwells?

Graduate development programme: Part 1

Our graduate development programme is split into two parts.

Part 1.

Part 1 is aimed at arming you with any additional skills you need beyond your technical expertise in your given field. These skills will help you build a strong foundation in your real estate career. You will work with colleagues from multiple disciplines and locations focussing on personal effectiveness and impact, commercial and financial awareness aswell as client delivery skills. Here is a flavour of some of the topics covered throughout your first year:

  • Communicating with confidence
  • Time management
  • Negotiation
  • Engaging and Professional writing skills
  • Handling difficult conversations

You’ll also have fun along the way; we host a range of team and network-building activities starting with Gradfest! This event introduces you to Bidwells and everything it has to offer, including meeting your fellow cohort of graduates and embarking on some enjoyable, out-of-office activities. In the past, these have included horseracing in Perth, Punting in Cambridge and shuffle-boarding in East London! 

Graduate development programme: Part 2

Part 2. 

Part 2 turns our attention to all things APC! We offer parallel programmes for both RICS and RTPI including seminars, practice interviews, development planning and individual coaching, designed and led by experienced in-house APC assessors.  

You’ll have line management support, mentorship and team support to ensure you are confident and ready. We have an exceptional passrate and will do all we can to get you qualified!
