A standout session challenged the UK to think bigger than the Oxford-Cambridge corridor. Leaders from across the country—Cambridge, Oxford, Glasgow, Liverpool, and beyond—explored how science-led growth can and must benefit the whole of the UK.

The panel shared bold visions for national collaboration, inclusive innovation, and regional scale-up success.

Their message was clear: the UK’s global science advantage will only be realised if its benefits are felt in every region—not just the Southeast. From Glasgow’s inclusive innovation districts to Liverpool’s AI-driven health breakthroughs and digital infrastructure, science is driving real transformation beyond traditional powerhouses.

“It’s not about two shiny objects at either end. It’s about growing a national innovation ecosystem with local roots and global reach.”

With partnerships forming between Cambridge and Manchester, Oxford and Birmingham, and plans underway to strengthen links with Liverpool and Cardiff, the UK is at a turning point.

Now is the moment to connect our clusters, scale our startups, and deliver science-led growth that’s inclusive, place-based, and genuinely nationwide.
